The purpose of this post is to outline what points I wish to discuss with this essay.
The title of the essay being:
How have input
devices such as remotes, keyboards, mice and pen tablets changed over time to improve
comfort, usability and functionality?
- Introduction
- Look at old devices and how they were originally designed, for instance look at key spacing, keyboard layout, shape of mice.
- Look at how the uses of these devices changed from being mostly a tool for work or a job, to being used in more of a leisurely, casual, recreational fashion.
- Then look at how these new uses demanded for the products to evolve and change to make them more comfortable to use and easier to understand for the user.
- Possibly look at how with the creation of other devices already existing devices have changed or possibly become redundant as demand for the older product has declined. For instance there really aren't any modern force-feedback joysticks about.
- Discuss how the trend of other items becoming more ergonomic and more rounded and soft in appearance has affected other devices being designed to become more ergonomic as people become more aware of comfort.
- Investigate how new jobs and professions and even hobbies have emerged demanding more from devices and how these devices have become more specialised to succeed in doing the task that is required of them.
- Look at present day devices and compare them to what they originally would've looked like and identify trends in those devices and make a prediction on features and capabilities of future devices. Will they be gesture based like a kinect or will controls remain firmly on the device? (Possibly use this point as a conclusion of sorts)
